It's true! One of my first passions driven by my autism is the pipe organ. I still love it to this day. Once I got hooked there was no going back. Or Bach, if you punists prefer ;)
Every kids interest is a way to connect with a child, but I agree that for an autistic child seeing and recognising their special interests is so important. Often it is something they have developed a deep understanding or knowledge of, or it brings them immense pleasure, why wouldn't you want to be a part of that? Not to mention that the world needs humans with intense special interests- they change the world!
Absolutely agree! Just saying some people may struggle to connect when the interests are esoteric or unconventional compared to those of non-autistic kids.
Does seem a bit cruel - as my schooling was a perpetual project and apparently studying the Vikings regularly over years was a perfectly acceptable form of pedagogy in the seventies these latter day interventions past me by - entirely fortunately.
Spot on, Julie! I would add that investing in your child's interests - neurodiverse or neurotypical - is a sure way to connect with them as a parent.
(By the way, I glaze over when someone's interest bores me to tears, as well. What I do instead is listen for something they say that I DO find interesting, and then inquire further about that.)
Hmmm there are elements of golf that have their charm. Apparently the twisting part of it isn’t really very good for the body though. Charm wise mainly a nice walk and juggling the golf balls can be fun. Some of the outfits are outlandish or were historically.

Yes, my point exactly. I'll try your tip next time I'm faced with a golfer ;)
